My Feet Hurt
Grace. I’m on this never ending journey to be grounded and rooted in the realities of heaven and to be totally honest with you – sometimes I just wanna give up and forget about this continuous walk I need to take with Jesus. But because of His grace I am able to keep going no matter how many times I stumble and fall and miss the mark. Grace is the favor of God that gives us another chance to get up and keep walking. Grace = God’s favor.
Remember that breakup that caused you agonizing pain, but you somehow was able to pick up the pieces?
Remember that time you made a decision about something that ended in disaster but you made the best of it? Or the job you took that didn’t quite work out but you were able to add it to your resume anyway and that work experience landed you a better job? Or how about that car you bought that broke down when you mailed the last payment - but it saved your life one time from a speeding motorist.
Remember that guy who left his beautiful, safe home in heaven and came to a dirty and ungrateful earth and died an excruciating death so that we could be free from sin and the wiles of the adversary?
Grace = God’s favor. However, keep in mind that God will not be mocked, His grace does not mean we can do anything and everything and He’ll look the other way…there are consequences to our actions.
In a relationship with someone when God told me to RUN!!! He clearly told me, “This is not it Breezy – you’re gonna get hurt” my response to God, “Naw…I got this, I’m gonna make sure it won’t be me that gets hurt…and if so it won’t hurt as much as that last relationship.” Can you believe I actually said that to God? What an idiot right?? Needless to say I was the one that got hurt, betrayed on levels unimaginable. But guess what, God was right there for me, He did not turn His back on me because of my blatant disobedience. He did me a favor and walked with me through each day. WOW!!! I now make it my business to be watchful for God’s advice and to do the best I can to be obedient (cause you know in spite of grace, He will not be mocked!)
Wanda and Rhea:
Family gatherings, we all love them right – affords us an opportunity to hang out with the ones we love, to share good food and a few jokes about the cooks, run around and play some kind of sport (I don’t know pick an activity.) The family gathering suddenly turns into a brawl and ends on a negative note… it started something like this: Wanda says something that offends Rhea, instead of Rhea extending a little grace by just shaking her head and walking away she counter-offends, and there it goes - the brawl. The family gathering could have been peaceful and packed with lots of fun had Rhea extended a little grace in allowing Wanda to have her brief brain seizure.
Got it now? Extending grace to someone is doing them a favor and not giving them what they really deserve. Instead of God wiping me off the face of the earth for being disobedient and prideful - I’m alive!! And, instead of Rhea punching Wanda in the face, she could have just did Wanda and the entire family a favor and walked away.
It's pretty hard to do sometimes….just walk away or ignore someone when they offend us because we think we look like a chicken, or we're scared of the offender if we let them get away with offending us. Is God a chicken or afraid of us when he extends grace to us when we make all kinds of stupid mistakes or offend Him? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! He extends His grace to us out of genuine love.
How many times have we had an opportunity to extend grace to someone but didn’t? Kinda stupid how we expect God’s grace (favor) but won’t extend it to others right?
What’s your take on grace? When was the last time you extended it to someone who didn’t deserve it?
Pastor Ron Carpenter did an entire series on “Grace” I actually stumbled across it one day while cleaning my room. Grab your “focus” and have a listen. (Feel free to listen to the entire series…YouTube is awesome right?)
