I asked God what should we do about what’s going on between His children. On one side you have His children who believe that Jesus is His son, on the other side you have His children who do not believe that Jesus is His son. I asked Him, “should we embrace those who practice Islam, or should we call them to carpet on what we believe to be true?” This is an issue that is guiding us all down a slippery slope – Islam versus Christianity, Christians versus Muslims. I don’t see a peaceful end at the bottom of this slope Lord. And of course there’s the media that will continue to pit both sides against each other with plenty of negative stories of the Islamic faith – but won’t show the negative stories of the Christian faith (Have we forgotten about the young Christian man who entered a church sat down and prayed with other Christians, pulled a gun out and opened fire on unsuspecting believers?)
WHAT DO WE DO LORD?
I am a Christian and I will defend my belief that Jesus is God’s son who died on a cross for me and was resurrected and ascended into heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to guide me. That is my belief, I will defend it until the end of time. One reason for my belief is because I was raised to believe it, however 99% of why I believe this as an adult is because of personal encounters I have had with Jesus.
Religious doctrines have pitted God’s people against each other since the beginning of time - who’s right or who’s wrong. One religion says, confess your sins to another human being and God will forgive you, say 50 hail Mary(s) and 100 Our Fathers and God will welcome you back into His circle of grace and mercy. The other religion says that God will reward you 10 virgins in heaven if you martyr yourself for His name sake. Some religions tell you to spin around on your head 10 times and God will answer your prayer (smile) REALLY? Have you ever read the Gospels? Jesus did not care for the Pharisees and their rules and regulations – He would always bring them to the carpet on their “religion”
The bottom line for us as Christians concerning Muslims and their faith is that we must not forget the number one thing Christ told us – love one another and do not wander beyond His teachings.
For me, loving someone does not mean I have to sit down and have tea crumpets with someone whose beliefs are different than mine. Loving you means not passing judgement on you and condemning you to hell – that’s not my assignment to do as a believer, I am called to respect you and to be kind to you and share my experiences as a human that have catapulted me into my faith in Jesus with the sincere hope that you too will seek him as your savior – that’s it, that’s all. If you disagree with me – I will kindly defend my faith with what I have experienced with Jesus and move on!
We cannot fall into another trap of the adversary who - through all the negative news stories of the Islamic faith - wants nothing more than to pit ALL God’s people against each other in the name of religion.
A friend once asked me, “How do you know Jesus really existed?” I answered, “How do you know he didn’t?” I’ve learned a long time ago not engage in conversations that will eventually lead to a heated argument; I don’t have time for it and it really doesn’t accomplish anything – believe what you want to believe and I will believe what I want to believe – now can we get on with just loving each other?
Okay, so here are a few scriptures I was lead to when I asked God about this Muslim/Christian thing, please feel free to check them out links are provided for your convenience. Know the Word for yourself!
